so a bronze or silver weighs as much as a gold medal? if participation is more important than winning gold then why not award all athletes and teams with a random medal.

I think the graph may have been confusing because it was set to relative. I have reset the graph to absolute, which gives the actual number of medals won by country.

Cool Graph!
I found this widget that displays who won the 2008 Olympics from different perspectives.
It displays medals won by total medal count and gold count.
In addition it can show medals won per million inhabitant and per million dollar GDP.

You can use your own data set from swivel in it by simply inserting your data set ID and clicking show.
